Beyond AI Automation: How the Best Companies Use AI to Augment Employee Capabilities

Great Place to Work

AI is everywhere. And much of the conversation surrounding it skews negative: What jobs might disappear? But that doesn’t have to be the case. In fact, it shouldn’t be the case. AI shouldn’t replace human workers; it should enable them to be more capable and creative. AI augmentation is when employees and machines work together, enhancing what people can accomplish rather than automating roles and replacing people with machines.

In reply to General von Klinkerhoffen. Yeah, this. Maybe I’m biased because where I live, most parents with young children reduce their hours at least somewhat and part-time work is much more normal than it appears to be in the US. But full-time work with childcare responsibilities is so hard and in this case, it doesn’t appear to be working!

Few traits are more celebrated than self-awareness , broadly defined as the ability to know or understand yourself. And yet, self-awareness is surprisingly rare. In reply to Sandi. Absolutely. Having money gives you the freedom of choice, and the choices aren’t just this job/this job in renegotiated form/no job. Part of what time + renewed energy gives you is a sense of the choices AND excitement about them. But it’s so (understandably) hard to see that in OP’s situation–a situation for which I’m tremendously sorry, and I do hope you can take some extra time off regardless of everything else.

In reply to Beth. Another reason to not consider the understaffedness in your decision, as Alison recommended: You might not have the full financial picture of what the organization can and is willing to do. In my org, we sometimes have extra budget, but not enough for a full time person. Since it’s less common that people work part time here, we don’t usually recruit for part time positions, and the extra money isn’t so helpful in alleviating the understaffedness.

LW2, PTO is part of your compensation package. Your new boss is being very weird here; if they are unhappy with how much PTO you get then they can take this up the same way if they thought you are overpaid. Besides, I wonder what our CTO would think if I allowed employees, especially expensive employees, to carry 500 hour PTO balances with any sort of regularity.
