One reason the requirements for the proposal keep getting more granular is because for years the entirety of the information dissemination sections we reviewed would state “we will publish in a high impact academic journal.” Which… is not what the funding agencies have in mind, especially when they have to show impact to the administration/general public to protect their research funding.

In reply to Kay. Yup – I feel sorry for Quinn coming in to such a dumpster fire of a department. No-one in the dept seems concerned about the business reasons for why their previous manager got fired. Instead the main complaints seem to be that Quinn won’t do their work and isn’t chatty enough. Fairly certain they wouldn’t be making those complaints about a male manager.

Exactly the same thing has happened to me each time I’ve moved so I think it’s normal to suddenly realise how much work, expense and commitment you’re taking on and feel daunted by the whole thing. I googled and found an explanation — Most common reason (the article cited a 2011 study in “Applied Environmental Microbiology”) is, airborne microbes entering the dispenser. Then when you refill the container with new soap.over time, the bacteria will make that watery too. It said, less commonly, heat can make liquid soap turn more watery.

If the audience are parents of school age kids, vouchers for a week of camp or after school lessons were popular and easy to ask for – lots of sports leagues and artists studios run lessons or camps and the camps always seem to have spots so it doesn’t really cost them to give them away. For adults, yoga and fitness free sessions and a new local skin place – again, it doesn’t really cost them a lot and it’s free PR.

In reply to The thrifty Canuck. The folks I know tend to buy newish – my car was I think 2 years old with like 15k miles on it when I bought it three years ago? And then they will generally have car payments for a few years, but also plan to maintain and drive the car for as long as they reasonably can before replacing it, not just swap it out as soon as it’s paid off.

Maybe look at the place and figure out how to get it a good cleaning and which parts only need a fresh coat of paint before you move your stuff in. In reply to The thrifty Canuck. We’ve done it once – we wanted to buy the car (a Hyundai EV) by a certain date in order to benefit from a state tax credit. We couldn’t reasonably afford to pay in full at that time, but knew we’d be able to a few months later after my spouse got a bonus and I got paid for summer school, so we made payments for about 6 months and then paid off the balance.
