The office was totally empty, but there was one other person, a graduate student (who I do not supervise), who had also, unbeknownst to me, come in to work that day. I’ll preface this by saying I was in my early 20s and never had anyone to mentor me about professionalism until I found this site. I was trying to be funny I guess.

I have little direct supervision, and there is no one else here who is directly responsible for the same broad categories of work. And I’m afraid I have shot myself in the foot in terms of my professional development by spending a good chunk of my 20s in this job where I have such undefined responsibilities and no mentor.

She was paid double and my friend even made food available because she knew that this employee was upset. The weird part is, other managers in my department who do not supervise this staff, including MY manager were invited. I had a strong and positive relationship with my supervisor, whom I considered both a mentor and a friend.

To save costs, they’ve started rotating between fast food places, wings, and premade sandwich boxes, none of which have vegetarian options. Would I be out of line to request some more inclusive food options, or at the least a la carte sides? My mentor and some peers say my policy is dumb, controlling, or a waste of my time.
